Handheld ultrasound: Make decisions at the point of care
Handheld ultrasound is always with you at the point of care. It fits in your pocket so you have it readily available for a variety of exams, including abdominal, cardiology, lung, obstetric, urinary/ bladder, liver, kidney and vascular scanning. You don’t have to find an available ultrasound system or wait for radiology to provide results of an exam.
Many healthcare obstetricians cardiologists, general practitioners, obstetrician, primary care, emergency physicians, and intensivists are using portable ultrasound to guide their diagnoses, optimize the course of treatment and save time.
Two transducers in a single handle for easy exams
GE Vscan Extend has a dual probe with both linear and sector transducers in a single handle. Both transducers are always connected and readily available so there’s no need to go find the system and untangle the probes.
The dual-headed probe allows for shallow and deep views in a wide variety of exam types and clinical applications, including cardiac, abdomen, carotids, thyroid and lungs.
An interface that feels like your smartphone
GE Vscan Extend is designed to be easy to use, much like your smartphone with a minimized number of keys. Just swipe through the interface with your right or left thumb to access powerful portable ultrasound and clear images.
It’s also easy to adjust in one hand while holding the probe with the other.
Wireless image transfer makes documentation a snap
GE Vscan Extend seamlessly integrates handheld ultrasound imaging with your hospitals’ wireless networks and DICOM?-based documentation and reporting. Review images at the bedside or use wireless DICOM data transfer to connect to your standard imaging workflow. With a special emphasis on data security, you can easily and securely send images wirelessly to the PACS.

Although most medical schools agree that ultrasound should be part of students’ curriculum, ultrasound is often not a priority. 1. This means many medical students might have little or no exposure to ultrasound and could graduate without adequate experience. This could lead to the need for training later, which can be more expensive. Vscan Extend provides an affordable, user-friendly tool that is well-suited for instruction and practice. Small enough to fit in your lab coat pocket, it’s a teaching tool that’s always with you, ready to go.
